The BioTC curriculum includes a one-week general biomanufacturing course covering both upstream and downstream operations, emphasizing aseptic techniques and controlled environments. There's also an advanced two-week certification program covering a broader spectrum of biomanufacturing operations and analytical methods. The goal is to equip a diverse talent pool for the biomanufacturing industry. The goal is for at least 1/3 of students to come from disadvantaged and underserved communities, such as BIPOC or Veterans.
General Biomanufacturing Curriculum:
One-week hands-on short course
Provides overview and hands-on lab activities for upstream and downstream biomanufacturing operations
Focuses on working in a controlled environment, aseptic technique, and basic laboratory equipment operation
Participants create a model protein through upstream activities (bioreactor assembly, culture media preparation, batch cultivation, offline analysis, harvesting) and downstream techniques (buffer preparation, tangential flow filtration, column cleaning, sanitation, ion exchange, hydrophobic interaction chromatography)
Advanced Certification in Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing Curriculum:
Online courses followed by 2-3 week of hands-on training
Covers upstream, downstream, and analytical operations within biomanufacturing industry
Emphasizes working in a controlled environment, aseptic technique, and basic laboratory equipment operation
Participants produce a model protein through various upstream activities (plating, bioreactor assembly, culture media preparation, seed culturing, inoculation, batch cultivation, harvesting, eukaryotic cell counting)
Teaches downstream techniques for protein purification (homogenization, centrifugation, buffer preparation, sterile filtration, tangential flow filtration, column packing, column cleaning, sanitation, ion exchange chromatography, hydrophobic interaction chromatography)
Includes a small set of analytical techniques (OD and metabolite measurements, BCA assay, membrane integrity testing)
